Yate Town 0 Fry Club 15

18 September 2005

The start of the new season saw the girls kick off their league campaign away from home to Yate Town with the question- How quickly could a team made up of under 12’s and 14’s from last year and the introduction of 3 new faces gel?

After a cautious start where goal scoring opportunities were created but missed, the girls then began to settle and gaining more confidence it was pleasing to see them passing the ball well and eventually their persistence paid off with the first goal coming after about 15 minutes.

With the advantage of having two substitutes and Yate only being able to field 6 players, it was possible to exert further pressure in the second period, creating more chances but still missing numerous attempts on goal. With the greater amount of possession we eventually came out winners by 15 goals to 0.

This was the first full game that the girls had played this year and it was good to see them being committed and enjoying their game. As a cautionary note, there will be tougher tests for them over the next few games, where missed opportunities could be the difference between winning and losing, but the way they have started is a good basis for progression.
